Senate Joint Resolution No. 312

Designation Virginia's Racing Region.


WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce of Martinsville-Henry County, the Danville area, Halifax County, Patrick County, and the Pittsylvania County have been working together to market and promote tourism through the automobile racing industry in South Central Virginia; and

WHEREAS, The Counties of Halifax, Henry, Patrick, and Pittsylvania, the Cities of Danville and Martinsville, and the Towns of South Boston and Stuart have similarly joined together to promote automobile racing in the area; and

WHEREAS, the Chambers of Commerce, working in concert and calling themselves Virginia's Racing Region , are developing and publishing a visitor's guide to be mailed to racing fans who purchase tickets for the Martinsville Speedway and South Boston Speedway and to be redistributed through visitor centers and to media representatives; and

WHEREAS, Virginia's Racing Region plans to print at least 20,000 of these guides, in the hope that racing fans who come to South Central Virginia will extend their stay in the region and return for future visits; and

WHEREAS, this cooperative venture by South Central Virginia localities should prove beneficial to the economy of the region and deserves the support of the General Assembly; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring , That the Counties of Halifax, Henry, Patrick, and Pittsylvania, the Cities of Danville and Martinsville, and the Towns of South Boston and Stuart be hereby designated Virginia's Racing Region ; and , be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit copies of this resolution to the Chambers of Commerce of Martinsville-Henry County, Danville, Halifax, Patrick, and Pittsylvania so that they may be apprised of the General Assembly's action.
